Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Michael Olise that would not just shake the transfer market, but redraw its borders entirely.

The European champions are said to be exploring a package in the region of €223m for the Bayern Munich forward – a fee that would eclipse Neymar’s long-standing €222m move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain and set a new world record. Any formal offer at that level would put Bayern’s resolve under severe strain and send a clear message about Florentino Perez’s latest galáctico vision.

Olise has given Madrid every reason to look his way. Since swapping Crystal Palace for Bavaria, he has erupted into one of the most productive forwards on the continent, stitching together goals, assists and performances of authority in the Bundesliga and in Europe. A left-footed creator who can operate across the front line, he fits perfectly into Perez’s obsession with stockpiling the game’s elite attacking talent.

For some, he would be the final piece. For Ivan Zamorano, he would be the first name on the shopping list.

Zamorano’s dream forward line

Speaking to Marca, the former Madrid striker did not bother with diplomacy when Olise’s name came up. The Chilean, a cult hero at the Bernabeu between 1992 and 1996, went straight to the point.

“I’d buy Olise tomorrow!” he declared. In his mind, the blueprint is simple: “And I’d play with Olise, [Kylian] Mbappe, Vinicius, and I’d bring in Enzo Fernandez and put him in midfield. We already have a right-back, a center-back... so with that we’d have a great team.”

It is the kind of fantasy line-up that has long fuelled Perez’s tenure – a front line of Olise, Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, backed by a World Cup-winning midfielder in Fernandez, wrapped around the core of a squad that has just conquered Europe again. On paper, it looks unstoppable.

Zamorano, though, has watched enough of Madrid’s recent football to know that paper and grass tell different stories.

Galáctico dreams, structural warnings

The 2025-26 campaign exposed fissures that no amount of star power could entirely hide. For all the brilliance of Vinicius and Mbappe, Madrid laboured at times, stretched between a devastating attack and a back line that too often stood alone.

Zamorano did not shy away from that reality.

“We have two world-class strikers, and there’s no doubt the team must be built around that,” he said, acknowledging the obvious focal points. “Last year there was an imbalance between the attackers, the midfield, and the defense.”

The temptation, with players of that calibre, is to let them solve everything. Zamorano sounded a clear warning against that approach.

“While that’s true, we have to take advantage of having two world-class strikers and the possibility of adding another. We also need to find a balance by bringing in central defenders, all-around midfielders, and not relying so heavily on two monsters like Vinicius and Mbappe. We also need to try to create a very compact team from the forwards back,” he explained.

The message is blunt: Olise would be a spectacular signing, but Madrid’s next evolution cannot just be another poster on the stadium wall. It has to be a structural rebuild, front to back.

Olise’s focus fixed on France

While his name ricochets around Madrid and Munich boardrooms, Olise’s immediate reality is far from transfer rooms and balance sheets. His attention is locked on France’s 2026 World Cup campaign, where he has become a central figure in Didier Deschamps’ squad.

Off the pitch, though, a different battle is unfolding. The French Football Federation has turned to FIFA in an attempt to have a yellow card rescinded from the playmaker’s record, picked up in a bruising round-of-16 tie against Paraguay.

Olise was booked after a flashpoint with Matias Galarza in a bad-tempered contest that France edged 1-0 thanks to a Kylian Mbappe penalty. In a tournament of fine margins, every caution matters, and the FFF is determined to protect one of its key attacking weapons as the stakes rise.
