Real Madrid Nears Diomande Transfer in Bundesliga Record Deal

Real Madrid are on the brink of landing one of the most expensive signings in Bundesliga history – and one of the most hotly pursued young wingers in Europe.

According to Sky, negotiations between Los Blancos and RB Leipzig have entered the final stretch, with the Spanish giants expected to pay between €130 million and €140 million for Diomande. At that price, the 19-year-old Ivorian would become the second-costliest sale the Bundesliga has ever seen, behind only Ousmane Dembele’s €148m move from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona.

Just days ago, the fee being discussed hovered around €120m. The stakes have risen quickly.

Madrid Board Holds the Final Word

Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs reports that there is already a verbal agreement in place on the framework of the move. Sky, however, are holding back from calling it done. The last word must come from Madrid.

That decision is expected this afternoon, when Real’s board convene to give formal approval. Only then will the green light flash.

Until that happens, the deal sits in that familiar modern transfer limbo: everything agreed in principle, nothing signed, everyone waiting.

Training Camp Twist and Romano Under Fire

The saga has already produced its share of drama.

Diomande travelled to RB Leipzig’s training camp in Saalfelden, Austria on Wednesday. Officially, he had reported ill before departure on Saturday, then rejoined the squad after recovering from an infection.

Real Madrid had hoped to bypass that step entirely. Their plan was simple: pull him out, fly him straight to the Spanish capital, complete the medical, and close the deal. Negotiations with the Saxony club refused to cooperate.

Talks dragged on, and the winger reported to camp as planned. That delay left one of the biggest names in the transfer news game exposed.

More than a week ago, Fabrizio Romano had already presented the deal as effectively done, prompting a wave of criticism when it failed to materialise on schedule. RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer did not hide his irritation when speaking to Sky on Tuesday.

“When we have something to announce, we will do so. One or two transfer experts already described it seven or 10 days ago as ‘done’ or ‘Here we go’. But that is simply not the case. A lot goes into it. It is not that far yet,” Schäfer said.

The message was clear: Leipzig, not the transfer insiders, control the timeline.

That Leipzig can now name a price north of €130m says everything about Diomande’s explosion over the past season.

Bayern Munich, never shy when it comes to raiding the Bundesliga for top talent, are said to have weighed up a move as well.

Real Madrid have outlasted them all.

The Spanish giants appear unfazed by both the fee and the complications around the deal. They see a 19-year-old with elite acceleration, end product, and the temperament to handle the Bernabéu spotlight. Leipzig’s model is built on exactly this kind of story. Spot the talent early, develop him fast, sell at the peak. If Real Madrid meet the asking price, they will have executed that strategy to perfection once again.
