Marcus Rashford's Future at Barcelona in Jeopardy Amid Transfer Talks

Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona dream is hanging by a thread – and it may be Bernardo Silva, not Anthony Gordon or Julián Álvarez, who cuts it.

The Manchester United forward, on loan at Barça since the summer of 2025, has made it clear he wants to stay. The feeling, at least in footballing terms, is mutual. Barcelona like him. They’ve liked what he’s given them off the left. But they don’t like him at €30m.

That is the crux. The Spanish champions are refusing to trigger the agreed €30m (£26m, $35m) option with United. For a club counting every euro, Rashford at that price is a debate. Anthony Gordon at almost three times that? Apparently not.

Gordon in, Álvarez in – and now Bernardo?

Barcelona have already committed heavily to the left flank. Gordon is on his way from Newcastle United in a £69m (€80m, $92.5m) deal, another England international whose best work also comes from that left channel Rashford loves.

On top of that, talks are ongoing with Atlético Madrid for Julián Álvarez. The Argentine, currently leading the line at Atleti, could cost around €150m (£130m, $175m). A marquee No.9, a blockbuster winger, and a club that still needs to juggle its wage bill and registration rules.

The obvious conclusion has been that Gordon and Álvarez squeeze Rashford out. Yet in Catalonia, the feeling is that another name may prove decisive.

Sport report that Bernardo Silva is the player who could finally shut the door on Rashford’s stay at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The Manchester City midfielder is set to leave this summer and, crucially for Barça, would be available as a free agent. According to the Barcelona-based outlet, his agent Jorge Mendes has already “offered” him to the club, and the hierarchy are “seriously considering” bringing him in.

They see a player still operating at an elite level, one who has again been central to Pep Guardiola’s plans this season. They also see a leader, a dressing-room presence, and – perhaps most importantly – a tactical Swiss army knife.

Bernardo can play in midfield. He can step out to the right wing. He can, as Sport point out, give Lamine Yamal the rest a 16-year-old phenomenon badly needs across a long campaign.

And that versatility is where the dominoes start to fall.

Sport make it clear: if Bernardo arrives, Rashford goes. With Gordon already locked in and a free-transfer star like Bernardo occupying another attacking slot, there is simply “no room in the squad for the English winger”.

Atlético Madrid are also in the picture. The same report notes that they have made an offer to Bernardo, which adds another layer to a summer negotiation web that already includes the Álvarez talks between Barça and Atleti. The relationships and leverage at play are obvious, and Barcelona know it.

But their stance on Rashford is just as stark. Bernardo plus Gordon means the end of the road.

Arsenal told to pounce

While Barcelona hesitate, others are being urged to act. In north London, one voice in particular wants Arsenal to move.

TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods, a well-known Arsenal supporter, believes Mikel Arteta should be all over the situation. The price, in her eyes, makes it a no-brainer.

“I would love to see Rashford there!” she told talkSPORT. “For that amount of money, what was it? £26m or something like that.

“I don’t understand the difference there [compared to Anthony Gordon] in price tag. Marcus Rashford at Barcelona seemed to really work.

“You’re right, I’d kind of like to see him back in the Premier League as well.”

Her point bites. In a market where £69m is the going rate for Gordon, a £26m option on Rashford looks like a rare inefficiency. A proven Premier League forward, still in his twenties, with European experience and a season of football at Barcelona behind him.

Arsenal have chased wide forwards before. Arteta has built a side that thrives on fluid movement across the front line, with players interchanging roles and positions. A revitalised Rashford, cutting in from the left, rotating with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, would add a different profile and a serious goal threat.

For now, though, the winger’s future sits in limbo. Barcelona admire him but won’t pay the fee. Bernardo Silva waits, Gordon is coming, and Julián Álvarez may yet follow.

If the Catalan club decide that Bernardo is the final piece of their attacking puzzle, Rashford will be forced to look elsewhere.

The question is simple: will a Premier League giant – perhaps even Arsenal – be brave enough to seize an opportunity Barcelona are prepared to let go?
