Rangers' Driouech Bid Rejected as Celtic Target Hassan

Rangers’ push to land Couhaib Driouech has hit another wall. PSV Eindhoven have rejected an improved £6m bid from the Ibrox club for the 24-year-old winger, and the market around him is suddenly getting crowded.

Burnley and Celta Vigo have now joined the race, with talks described as being at an early stage. The landscape has shifted quickly – and not in Rangers’ favour. Driouech is understood to hold a slight preference for Celta after the Spanish club stepped in alongside the Scottish side, a detail that will concern those in Glasgow who believed an upgraded offer might tilt the deal their way.

For now, PSV are standing firm. The fee isn’t yet at the level they want, and with fresh competition emerging from the Premier League and La Liga, they have little incentive to soften their stance. Rangers, already rebuffed once and now again, must decide how far they are willing – or able – to go.

Celtic’s winger hunt: Hassan close, Ghedjemis gone

Across the city, Celtic’s wide-player rebuild has taken a more decisive turn, even if it has not been without frustration.

On one front, they have been beaten to the punch. Monaco have made Fares Ghedjemis their top priority for the right flank and are preparing an improved offer after seeing an initial bid of £6m plus £1.7m in bonuses rejected by Frosinone. The Italian club have already turned down £8.6m proposals from both Celtic and Rangers, underlining just how fiercely they value the 23-year-old Algeria international.

The message from Frosinone has been blunt: if you want Ghedjemis, you pay top dollar. Celtic and Rangers tested that resolve and were sent packing. Monaco, with deeper pockets and Champions League ambitions of their own, are now driving the pursuit.

So Celtic have pivoted – and quickly. Their move for Haissem Hassan is far more advanced.

The 24-year-old Egypt winger has been left out of Real Oviedo’s squad for their pre-season match against Le Havre, with a £9m bid from the Scottish champions on the table and an agreement in place for a long-term deal until 2030. The numbers behind the move are significant for both clubs: Real Oviedo are set to bank £6m up front, with a further £1.3m due if Celtic reach the Champions League proper.

The deal is now being held up by paperwork rather than negotiation. Hassan is dealing with visa issues before he can travel for a medical, but the framework is agreed, the path is clear, and everyone involved is speaking as if the transfer is a matter of “when” rather than “if”.

Real Oviedo head coach Julian Calero has already made the club’s stance plain: they will not stand in the player’s way. When a manager goes public like that, it usually signals the endgame. Oviedo get a sizeable fee and a sell-on narrative. Celtic get a winger entering his prime, tied down for six years, and a player whose profile fits their European ambitions.

Two Glasgow clubs, three wingers, and very different positions. Rangers are still knocking on PSV’s door for Driouech with new rivals forming a queue behind them. Celtic, having been priced out of Ghedjemis, look set to unveil Hassan as the next piece in their wide attacking puzzle.
