PSG Pursues Yan Diomande: Liverpool's Shift in Transfer Plans

Paris Saint-Germain have moved to the front of the queue for Yan Diomande, opening formal talks over a deal that could reshape their attack – and potentially send Bradley Barcola hurtling towards Anfield.

Sources indicate Diomande’s camp have now told Liverpool that PSG is his preferred destination if he leaves RB Leipzig this summer. That single message has shifted the entire landscape of a race Liverpool thought they were leading.

For months, Liverpool have worked quietly and relentlessly on Diomande. They tracked him closely through last season, built relationships, and positioned Anfield as the natural Premier League landing spot for the 21-year-old Ivory Coast winger. Inside the club, there was a genuine belief: if he crossed the Channel, it would be to wear red.

In the space of 24 crucial hours, PSG have stepped out of the shadows and into active negotiations, asking Leipzig what it would take to get a deal done, while Diomande’s representatives have made it clear where his heart lies – the Parc des Princes.

That stance has not shifted, even as the calls from Europe’s elite grow louder.

PSG, though, sense opportunity. The French champions are buoyed not only by Diomande’s declared preference but also by their internal connections. Transfer advisor Luis Campos maintains strong ties with former Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, now Chairman of the Supervisory Board. Inside PSG, there is a growing conviction: if a deal exists, they are best placed to find it.

Luis Enrique is a major driving force. He sees Diomande as one of the most explosive young attacking talents in Europe and has already begun sketching out how the winger would slot into an evolving, younger, more flexible PSG front line.

That vision comes at a cost for others.

Barcola caught in the crossfire

The most obvious casualty? Bradley Barcola.

The France World Cup forward ended last season increasingly frustrated by his role in PSG’s Champions League run-in, reduced to a supporting act from the bench when the stakes were highest. Liverpool have long identified the 23-year-old as a viable alternative to Diomande. Four statement signings: PSG’s summer blueprint

Diomande is only one piece of a wider PSG plan. The club are pushing for what insiders describe as four “statement” signings to reshape the squad and sharpen Luis Enrique’s options.

Their pursuit of Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche is progressing on a separate track. Inside PSG, Akliouche is viewed as the natural successor to Lee Kang-in, who is closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid, not as a direct rival to Diomande. Different profile, different role in Enrique’s blueprint.

The attack is being rebuilt after Goncalo Ramos’ club-record switch to AC Milan. To bolster the centre-forward options, Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi has emerged as one of the leading names under consideration. Work is ongoing in the background as PSG weigh up how best to complement Diomande-type wide threat with a reliable focal point.

The Paris hierarchy are also pushing hard for Lille wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi. Lille are open to a sale on one condition: the deal must include a loan back for the coming season. That suits PSG, who are eager to secure top young French talent early while allowing them to develop with regular minutes elsewhere.

Any move for Bouaddi, though, hinges on PSG’s midfield exits. Fabian Ruiz continues to attract interest from across Europe. Luis Enrique, for his part, would prefer to keep the Spain international for at least one more year, valuing his experience and calm head in a squad increasingly defined by youth.

Liverpool left fighting a fading cause

Amid all this, Liverpool remain fixed on Diomande, even as the ground shifts beneath them.
