Salah in limbo, but not for long

Mohamed Salah’s agent, Remy Abbas, has broken his silence after the forward’s departure from Liverpool, offering clarity on one point and intrigue on another.

“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon,” he said, underlining that talks are active but not yet resolved. The message was sharp on another front: there will be no circus.

“It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn't want to play for, just for the sake of noise.” No shop window tour. No empty flirting. Whoever comes in will be a club Salah genuinely sees as his next stage.

Rashford shuts the door – for now

At Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford has made his own decision. He stays.

According to The Athletic, the Manchester United forward has turned down several offers to leave this summer, some carrying higher wages than his current deal. He remains under contract until 2028, yet has not played for United since 2024, a stark gap for a player once billed as the club’s attacking future.

Clubs have come knocking with money and promises. Rashford has said no. The question now is whether United can turn that loyalty into a meaningful role, or whether this is simply a pause before the next round of negotiations.

The intrigue went further. Mundo Deportivo report that United even proposed Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal as part of a potential swap for Rashford. The expectation, at one stage, was that Rashford would join the Catalan club permanently. Barcelona instead chose Anthony Gordon.

With Rashford’s release clause now expired, any future move would need to be hammered out club to club, with United holding the leverage.

Liverpool widen the search

Life after Salah is already shaping Liverpool’s thinking.

Anfield Watch report that Djed Spence has been added to the club’s list of defensive targets. Liverpool want another full-back before the new Premier League season kicks off, and Spence, who has impressed with England at the World Cup, has emerged as a name of interest. Everton are also credited with an interest, hinting at a possible Merseyside tug-of-war if Liverpool firm up their stance.

Out wide, Liverpool are also recalibrating. TEAMtalk claim the club are weighing up a move for Bournemouth winger Rayan as they look for alternatives to Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise.

The market reality is brutal. PSG are said to want £128m for Barcola. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, value Olise at around £170m, even though the winger has reportedly asked to leave. Those numbers push Liverpool towards more attainable profiles, with Rayan one of several options under consideration rather than a lone, all-or-nothing target.

Newcastle eye Rushworth

Newcastle United, reshaping their squad with one eye on the future, are looking at Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, according to Sussex World.

Rushworth has already been linked with a return to Coventry City after a strong loan spell last season, a move that would have made sense for continuity and minutes. Newcastle’s interest changes the landscape. The report suggests they could attempt to beat Coventry to his signature, giving the 23-year-old a very different pathway – from Championship success story to part of a Premier League project.

Villa close in on Joao Gomes

At Villa Park, Aston Villa are moving with purpose.

ESPN report that Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is set to undergo a medical ahead of a transfer worth around £34m. The Brazilian playmaker has, according to the report, already left Wolves’ training camp in Portugal to complete the formalities.

Unai Emery has been building a side capable of handling domestic and European demands. Adding a dynamic, combative midfielder of Gomes’ profile fits that plan. If the deal is completed as expected, Wolves lose a key asset, Villa gain another engine in the middle of the pitch.

Ipswich move for Fatawu

Ipswich Town, newly promoted and keen not to waste their return to the top flight, are pushing into the market with ambition.

The Telegraph report that Ipswich have made an approach for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu. The Ghanaian is widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium after Leicester’s relegation to League One, a fall that makes retaining their brightest talents extremely difficult.

For Ipswich, Fatawu would represent both energy and upside on the flank. For Leicester, it would be another reminder of how quickly a squad can be stripped once the drop bites.

United weigh up Berge

Manchester United’s rebuild shows no sign of slowing.

TEAMtalk report that the club are internally discussing a move for Fulham midfielder Sander Berge, viewing him as one of their key targets for the remainder of the window. Should United push ahead, Berge would become their fifth signing after Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow and Cristian Orozco.
