The World Cup is edging towards its climax, but the real scramble is already underway in boardrooms across Europe. England’s heavyweights are moving fast, and the market is starting to crackle.

Arsenal rip up their forward line

Arsenal are acting like a team that refuses to stand still after a title win.

Leandro Trossard is on his way out, a deal agreed with Besiktas and a medical looming. His departure opens a lane for Christos Tzolis, with the Gunners now expected to move from interest to action. Club Brugge’s Greek winger, once of Norwich, is valued at around £30m and is firmly on their radar.

That is not the end of it. Arsenal’s forward plans are broad and ambitious. They remain in the hunt for Morgan Rogers and Bruno Guimaraes, while Andria Bartishvili is viewed as a long-term gem.

The headline pursuit, though, is Julian Alvarez. Fresh contact has been made with Atletico Madrid over the Argentina striker, who faces England in the World Cup semi-finals tonight. The clubs are still apart on price, but the door is open.

Reports suggest Alvarez would consider a move to north London if his preferred switch to Barcelona fails to materialise. Arsenal sense an opportunity. They are pushing on several fronts at once, and Tzolis is seen as a signing to complement, not replace, any blockbuster move for Alvarez.

Manchester United’s midfield revolution

At Old Trafford, the rebuild in midfield has moved from theory to reality.

Youri Tielemans has signed from Aston Villa in a £35m deal, the 29-year-old agreeing a five-year contract after United triggered his release clause. He becomes their third summer arrival, joining Andrey Santos and goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

United are not done. Manu Kone is now a leading target as they look to continue reshaping the centre of the pitch. The France international impressed at the World Cup before France’s semi-final collapse against Spain, and Roma’s need to sell has brought him into focus.

The chase will not be straightforward. Liverpool and Atletico Madrid are also in the frame, with Italian reports stressing that United will have to fight hard to land him.

One move that has slipped away is Ederson. United pulled out of a deal and the midfielder has since been offered a new contract at Atalanta. The focus has shifted decisively to Kone.

Liverpool reload for life after Salah

On Merseyside, Liverpool are preparing for the future without Mohamed Salah.

Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna, but the next key piece may be Bradley Barcola. New manager Andoni Iraola has identified the Paris Saint-Germain forward as a priority, and Liverpool have now held fresh talks with the French champions.

Barcola, 23, is keen on a move to Anfield. PSG are ready to sell. That combination has sharpened Liverpool’s intent, especially after RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande made it clear he only wanted PSG.

Arsenal have been linked with Barcola too, yet Liverpool have stepped to the front of the queue. At the same time, they are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United for Kone, turning a straightforward midfield plan into a high-stakes tug of war.

Chelsea look for answers at left-back

Chelsea’s search for a new left-back has turned into a saga.

Marc Cucurella has gone to Real Madrid for £51.7m, leaving a sizeable hole on the flank. Pep Chavarria of Rayo Vallecano has been their main target, and the London club have pushed hard in recent weeks.

The problem is the fee. Rayo, fresh from a surprise run to the Conference League final, are refusing to budge on their valuation. Negotiations have stalled.

So Chelsea have started to pivot. An initial approach has been made to Real Madrid for Alvaro Carreras, the former Manchester United defender. That interest has already become a concrete offer of around £21.3m.

Madrid, though, want roughly double that figure at £42.6m. The gap is wide, and Chelsea must decide whether to stretch or walk away in search of yet another option.

Tottenham weigh bold moves and big exits

Across north London, Tottenham are plotting a summer that could reshape their attack and defence.

Francisco Trincao is under consideration, with Spurs exploring a move for the Portuguese winger. Eli Junior Kroupi and Andreas Schjelderup are also on their list as they look to add pace and unpredictability in the final third.

There could be casualties. Cristian Romero, a cornerstone of their defence, and full-back Djed Spence both face uncertain futures and may yet move on if the right offers arrive.

Tottenham are also pushing into the full-back market. They have joined the race for Neco Williams, the Nottingham Forest defender and former Liverpool man, who has already attracted interest from Manchester United and Newcastle. Spurs see an opportunity to steal in.

Camavinga digs in at Real Madrid

While speculation swirls around others, Eduardo Camavinga is standing firm.

The Athletic reports that the midfielder remains determined to stay at Real Madrid despite continued talk over his future. His situation will be watched closely in the early weeks of Jose Mourinho’s tenure at the Bernabeu, but for now Camavinga is not agitating for a move.

Bournemouth handed a surprise name

Further down the Premier League, Bournemouth have been offered a defender more commonly linked with Europe’s elite.

Portuguese outlet A Bola claims Antonio Silva, the highly rated Benfica centre-back, has been proposed to the Dorset club. Silva has previously been mentioned in connection with Real Madrid and Manchester United, which makes the idea of him turning up at Bournemouth all the more striking.

The decision now rests with the Cherries: seize an unexpected chance, or assume a player of that profile is destined for a different stage?
