Peter Okidi Joins KCB as Assistant Coach for Premier League Campaign

Peter Okidi is back in the FKF Premier League – and this time he joins a touchline heavyweight.

KCB have confirmed the former Shabana head coach as their new assistant coach, installing him as deputy to veteran tactician Robert Matano ahead of the 2026–2027 campaign.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Okidi as the club's assistant coach who will deputize head coach Robert Matano ahead of the new season,” the club said in a statement, hailing the “wealth of coaching experience” he brings and an “impressive career across Kenyan football.”

From short stints to a major stage

Okidi’s return to the top flight comes after a whirlwind few months. He parted ways with Shabana by mutual consent in March, then took up a short-term role at National Super League side Mombasa United, where he stepped in for the dismissed Gilbert Selebwa.

That spell was brief. The next one could define him.

KCB have moved for a coach whose CV has quietly filled out over the last decade. Okidi held the reins at Nakuru All Stars in 2013, later took charge of Nakuru Bucks, and has also handled the Kenya U15 boys’ side. Those roles have built a reputation for developing young players and steadying dressing rooms in transition.

Now he walks into a dugout led by Matano, one of the most experienced coaches in the Kenyan game. It is a partnership that signals intent.

Bankers load up for a title push

KCB are not hiding their ambition. The club is chasing a first-ever Premier League crown, and the off-season has turned into a calculated rebuild of the technical bench.

Okidi’s arrival is one of several key additions. The Bankers have brought in former Gor Mahia goalkeeper trainer Boniface Oluoch as their new goalkeeper coach, tightening up a specialist position that often decides tight title races.

They have also moved to sharpen their data and preparation edge, appointing Tobby Owino as the club’s new Video Analyst to strengthen the performance and analysis department.
