Oliver Antman Set to Join Anderlecht After Rangers Exit

Oliver Antman’s short Rangers chapter is almost over. The Finnish winger is on the brink of joining RSC Anderlecht, with Derek McInnes confirming on Wednesday that the player has already travelled to Belgium to put the final touches on the deal.

“An agreement has been reached, and Oliver has travelled to finalise everything. I am quite sure that everything will go well for him,” McInnes told the Scottish media, drawing a firm line under a move that has gathered pace in recent days.

For Rangers, it brings a swift end to a gamble that never truly paid off. For Antman, it feels like a reset.

He arrived in Glasgow on the back of a 2024–25 season that turned heads across Europe. At Go Ahead Eagles he was electric: six league goals, a division-high 16 assists, and a key role in a KNVB Cup triumph that marked a golden year for the Deventer club. That form earned him a £3.5 million switch to Ibrox and the expectation that he would light up Scottish football in similar fashion.

The script never quite followed.

Antman struggled to properly settle in Glasgow’s demanding environment. The numbers tell the story: one goal and five assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. There were flashes of the creative player Rangers thought they had signed, but not enough to shift him from the fringes into guaranteed starter territory.

So the door has opened, and Anderlecht have stepped through it.

The Belgian side are understood to be paying just over five million euros for the 24-year-old, a fee that offers Rangers a measure of protection on their initial outlay and gives Anderlecht a player entering what should be his prime years. For a club that thrives on smart recruitment and development, Antman’s profile fits neatly: young, inventive, and with clear evidence of end product in the right setting.

In Scotland, his time will be remembered as a “what if?” In Belgium, he gets the chance to turn that question into an answer.
