Mohammed Fuseini Returns to Training After Violent Robbery

Union Saint-Gilloise forward Mohammed Fuseini has returned to training after falling victim to a violent street robbery in Brussels, an attack captured on a team-mate’s mobile phone and swiftly traced by police.

The footage, filmed as players walked back to their vehicle, showed several individuals ambushing the group and stealing valuables – including watches, phones and personal belongings. The images circulated quickly among investigators and proved crucial in identifying a suspect.

RUSG moved to reassure supporters with a stark but measured update on their player’s condition, describing the scenes as “particularly disturbing” and confirming that Fuseini was taken to hospital for checks. The club stressed he received “excellent care” and publicly thanked the Brussels police for what they called “outstanding work.” His injuries were described as minor, and he was back on the training pitch the following day.

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office later confirmed that a 23-year-old man has been remanded in custody at Haren prison after stolen items were recovered during a search of his home. In its statement, quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws, the prosecutor detailed how “three individuals fell victim to a violent robbery while heading to their vehicle in Brussels,” adding that several assailants attacked them and made off with multiple high-value items.

The suspect, who reportedly has no prior criminal record, now faces charges of violent gang robbery. His lawyer, Samuel Rosenblatt, confirmed his client’s detention on counts of gang robbery with violence, noting only that the judicial investigation is ongoing and that his client “is aware of the severity of the facts and regrets them.”

Two of the three victims suffered injuries serious enough to cause a temporary incapacity for work, underlining the force of the assault despite Fuseini’s relatively light physical damage.

For the Ghanaian forward, a hugely popular figure in the Union dressing room, the incident lands on top of an already punishing year. Under contract until 2028 and sitting on 14 goals in 71 appearances for the club, he has spent long stretches of the 2025-26 season on the sidelines, battling muscle, ankle and hamstring problems that ruled him out of 25 matches across 145 days.

Now, with the legal process gathering pace and a suspect behind bars, Fuseini’s focus can finally tilt back toward the pitch, where he will try to leave behind a year defined by injuries and an attack that never should have touched a professional footballer walking to his car.
