Now the league’s next fantasy name has been thrown into the rumour mill: Mohamed Salah.

The former Liverpool talisman, who chose to leave Anfield this summer despite having a year left on his deal, is weighing up his next move after featuring for Egypt at the 2026 World Cup. At 32, he stands at the familiar crossroads for global stars: one last tilt at Europe or a new stage entirely.

Talk of Turkey has lingered in recent weeks, but a different storyline has begun to gather pace. Reports claim Salah is in negotiations with an unnamed MLS club, and that was all it took. The speculation hit social media, and the reaction was instant.

“That would be insane,” wrote one fan, capturing the sense of disbelief that a player who has terrorised Premier League defences for years might soon be lining up in American stadiums.
