Gordon deal changes the landscape

Rashford delivered 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions on loan for Barça this season, a return that helped convince Hansi Flick he was worth keeping. The new Barcelona manager has been pushing internally for the club to trigger their option to buy.

The Athletic report that people around the player have received no formal communication that he will be leaving, and they still believe there is a genuine chance he could remain next season even with Gordon’s arrival.

The clock, however, is ticking. United’s June 15 deadline is firm, and Barcelona are reluctant to pay the full £26m option. Their preference is understood to be another loan, a route Manchester United have so far refused to entertain.

United’s stance is clear: they do not want Rashford back in the squad under Michael Carrick. INEOS, overseeing football operations at Old Trafford, must either extract the agreed fee from Barcelona or find a new buyer quickly.

If Barcelona blink, the market opens up – and it already has.

The Daily Mail report that Aston Villa, Tottenham and Arsenal have all discussed the possibility of moving for Rashford. No bids yet, but conversations are happening, and clubs of that stature do not “discuss” a player of his profile without running serious internal calculations.

Arsenal, chasing extra firepower and versatility across the front line, would see obvious appeal in a forward with Rashford’s pace and end product. Villa, under Unai Emery, are building a Champions League squad and have not been shy about ambitious moves. Tottenham, reshaped under Ange Postecoglou, want more goals and creativity around their front line.

All three can offer Premier League familiarity, big stages and European football. None can offer what Rashford, at this moment, wants most.

Milan swap talk lingers

If Barcelona cannot, or will not, meet United’s demands, another route has been floated: a swap deal with AC Milan involving Rafael Leão.

Reports have suggested Milan have slashed Leão’s asking price from £86m to around £43m, a figure that has caught United’s attention. Any such move would be complex and politically charged, but it underlines how far United are prepared to go to reshape their attack and avoid simply reintegrating Rashford.
