Marc Cucurella Confident Real Madrid Will Thrive Under Jose Mourinho

Marc Cucurella is optimistic about Real Madrid's prospects this season following his transfer from Chelsea for £47.5 million. The Spanish left-back expressed excitement about working with Jose Mourinho, who recently returned as the club’s head coach.

Mourinho Brings Confidence to the Team

The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has already made a strong impression during training sessions. Speaking to Real Madrid TV after his first day with the team, Cucurella highlighted the confidence Mourinho instills and his relaxed approach.

"A lot of confidence and naturalness. We have to do what we know on the pitch, and above all, enjoy ourselves. I think what we all want is to win and have a great year," Cucurella said.

From Barcelona’s La Masia to Real Madrid

Despite his roots in Barcelona's famed academy, Cucurella found it impossible to turn down the chance to join Real Madrid, one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs. After helping Spain claim World Cup glory and enjoying a solid Premier League career with Brighton and Chelsea, he views this move as a dream come true.

"As a kid starting out playing football, then having the opportunity to play for a club like this, it’s very hard to say no. When the chance came, I didn’t hesitate. I've witnessed all those magical nights and Champions League triumphs at the Bernabeu. To experience it firsthand is a huge responsibility but a beautiful challenge," he explained.

A Major Career Milestone

The 28-year-old defender made 163 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Conference League and Club World Cup in 2025. Joining other high-profile signings like Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries, Cucurella understands the pressure and expectations at Madrid.

"It’s an honour – not many get to wear this jersey. This club has a rich history, the biggest in Europe. Being here is a privilege, an honour, and a reward for all my hard work," he added.

Preseason and Upcoming Fixtures

Real Madrid is now deep into preparations for the new La Liga season. They will face Deportivo de A Coruna and Schalke in upcoming friendlies, which will help Mourinho integrate new players and refine his tactics. Their official campaign begins on August 22 with an away match against Espanyol.
