Manchester United Targets £30m Striker Kaua Elias

Manchester United’s summer rebuild is not finished yet, and the club’s search for firepower has taken them to western Ukraine, where a 20-year-old Brazilian has just delivered the kind of audition scouts dream about.

On Monday in Lviv, Shakhtar Donetsk forward Kaua Elias walked off with the match ball after a perfect hat-trick in a 5-1 demolition of Kudrivka. Left foot, right foot, header. All in front of representatives from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

United were there. So were Arsenal. AC Milan and Porto are hovering in the background. Shakhtar, fully aware of the interest, are understood to value the striker at around £30 million.

A rising Brazilian under the spotlight

Elias only joined Shakhtar from Fluminense in 2025, but his rise has been sharp. Twelve goals and three assists in 39 appearances is not yet elite output, yet the performances behind those numbers have clearly caught attention.

United’s recruitment team had already pored over his recent games on video. Monday was about confirmation. Up close. Under pressure. Against live opposition.

The reports that came back to Old Trafford were glowing. Internal assessments, according to the claims, describe Elias as having the “potential to develop into a top-level centre-forward” and, crucially, as “highly compatible with United’s press-heavy, fast-transition system”.

That line matters. United are not just looking for goals; they are looking for a forward who can trigger the press, run channels, and live off quick turnovers. Elias, by all accounts, ticks those boxes.

Competition building for signature

United, though, are not alone. Arsenal have been tracking the Brazilian for several weeks, monitoring his adaptation to European football and his output in the Ukrainian league.

From Italy, Rossoneri decision-makers at AC Milan are said to be weighing up a move of their own, while Porto’s interest adds a familiar Portuguese stepping stone to the equation. Elias’ camp is reported to have received “concrete signals” from more than one suitor, and the player is understood to be open to a move into one of Europe’s top leagues.

The expectation now is that an official bid will arrive. Whether that comes from Old Trafford, north London, or elsewhere remains to be seen, but Shakhtar know they are holding a valuable asset with a growing market.

United’s attacking gap

At United, the need is obvious. Michael Carrick, overseeing a reshaped squad, has just one recognised out-and-out centre-forward in Benjamin Sesko among his senior options. Joshua Zirkzee is set to depart, with Juventus pushing to take him to Serie A, which would leave the forward line looking worryingly thin for a club with United’s ambitions.

The midfield has already been addressed. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have arrived to add legs and control in the centre of the pitch, giving United more variety and depth between the lines. The spine, though, still needs a focal point at the top.

Recruitment plans reflect that. With weeks left in the transfer window, United are exploring moves for a third midfielder, a full-back, and a striker. Elias now sits firmly in that final category.

A squad still in motion

The reshaping extends to the back of the pitch as well. On Friday, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir left for Celta Vigo on an initial loan, with the La Liga club holding an option to make the move permanent for £3.5m. It is another sign of a squad in transition, with space being cleared and profiles being targeted to better suit the current manager’s demands.

All of which sharpens the focus on the forward search. United’s scouts believe they may have found a striker who fits the model: young, aggressive, technically sound, and already proving he can shoulder responsibility in Europe.

Now the question is simple. With Arsenal, Milan and Porto circling, will United turn admiration into a concrete offer and make Kaua Elias the next piece of their attacking rebuild, or watch a potential long-term No.9 slip into someone else’s colours?
