Manchester United’s summer rebuild under Michael Carrick has moved into its final month, and the picture around Old Trafford is starting to sharpen.

Five signings are already through the door. More could yet follow. And behind the scenes, the goalkeeper carousel and a potential big-money move for a Juventus winger are shaping the narrative of United’s run-in to deadline day.

Carrick’s reshuffle gathers pace

Carrick has not tiptoed into this window. He has torn into the spine of his squad.

Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos headline a midfield overhaul designed to give United more control and craft in the centre of the pitch. Tielemans brings Premier League nous and passing range; Santos adds legs and energy, a profile United have sorely lacked in recent seasons.

At the back, the club have moved to steady the most delicate position in any squad. Karl Darlow has arrived as experienced cover for Senne Lammens, who impressed enough last season to make the No.1 shirt his own. Behind them, United have looked further ahead, snapping up young goalkeeper Kit Margetson and highly rated winger Tynan Thompson as part of a longer-term plan.

Goalkeeper market: United knock, then step back

The goalkeeper department, already in flux, could have been shaken up even more.

Andre Onana has returned to Trabzonspor on loan, while Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek are both being linked with moves away. Despite Lammens’ emergence, United clearly tested the market.

One of those tests, according to an agent, reached all the way to South America.

Orlando Gill, San Lorenzo’s goalkeeper and a standout for Paraguay at this summer’s World Cup, drew attention from Europe’s major leagues. His representative, Mario Jara, confirmed that United were among the clubs who made contact.

“We are in talks with English clubs as well as clubs in Germany,” Jara told DSports Radio. “There were enquiries with Manchester United. We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase.

“The sale is close, the time is right. We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved. It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt.

“We’re trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo; hopefully, it will come to fruition.”

United, though, look unlikely to push for Gill after bringing in Darlow, a move that gives Carrick experience and reliability behind Lammens without crowding the pathway for younger keepers.

The message is clear: the club did their homework, tested the options, then backed the structure they have put in place.

Conceicao on the radar as Juventus juggle the books

While the goalkeeping situation steadies, attention is drifting upfield and across Europe.

In Turin, Juventus’ business could open a door for United. The Italian club are reshaping their own squad, and the signing of Bayer Leverkusen prospect Kerim Alajbegovic has had a knock-on effect.

Francisco Conceicao, the 23-year-old winger, is now viewed as expendable to balance the books. That decision has not gone unnoticed in England.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that both Manchester United and Liverpool have made enquiries about Conceicao, with Juventus said to be asking between £34 million and £42 million. The winger featured 42 times last season, a significant role for a player Juve are now prepared to sacrifice for financial reasons.

A move to the Premier League is described as likely. For United, he would represent exactly the kind of profile the club have started to target: young, proven at a high level, and with the potential to grow in value and influence.

Carrick already has options out wide, but the modern game is unforgiving. Depth wins seasons. And if Juventus are genuinely ready to cash in, United must decide quickly whether Conceicao is a luxury or a necessity.
