Manchester United Offers Mason Mount to AC Milan

Manchester United’s midfield reshuffle has taken a sharp turn: Mason Mount is being offered out, Amad Diallo is being locked in.

According to reports in Italy, United have proposed Mount to AC Milan in a deal worth around €25m (£21.5m), as the Premier League club look to generate funds for their summer rebuild. Milan Press claim the Serie A side have already received the proposal and that Ruben Amorim has given the “green light” to explore a move.

Amorim, now in charge at Milan after his stint at Old Trafford, knows exactly what he would be getting. Mount arrived at United from Chelsea with the pedigree of a Champions League winner and England international, but his time in Manchester has been blunted by persistent injuries and a slide down Michael Carrick’s pecking order.

United’s summer plan is clear: overhaul the middle of the pitch. A deal is already in place for Ederson Silva from Atalanta, and the club are still pushing to land Matheus Fernandes despite competition from Tottenham Hotspur. To keep that recruitment drive moving, they need exits.

The original hope had been to move on Manuel Ugarte, but a serious knee injury at the World Cup has effectively shut that door. Attention has shifted. Mount, once seen as a centrepiece of United’s next phase, has become a potential sacrifice to balance the books and clear space in a crowded midfield.

In Italy, the story has gathered pace. Milan Press reported on X that “Amorim’s new Milan is gearing up for a transfer window full of big signings, also featuring opportunities and proposals,” before naming Mount as one of the players put forward in recent hours. They state that Amorim, having already coached him at Old Trafford, has approved the start of talks, with an “exchange of information underway” and a valuation “around 25 million”.

While Mount’s future hangs in the air, one name is being firmly nailed down in Manchester: Amad Diallo.

The winger, one of the standout performers under Amorim during his time at United, has also been linked with Milan. On paper, it makes sense: a coach who trusts him, a club looking for wide creativity, a market where Premier League talent is always in demand. The rumours have circulated quickly in Italy.

They hit a wall in Manchester.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has made United’s stance crystal clear. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he reported that despite the noise from Serie A, the club have no intention of cashing in on Diallo this summer. Carrick, now steering the football decisions at Old Trafford, has been “insistent” that the Ivorian remains part of United’s plans.

“Manchester United’s position is very clear. Amad Diallo is not for sale this summer,” Romano said, adding that Carrick has communicated his decision to the hierarchy and that United “fully expect” Diallo to stay for the new season. Any fresh speculation linking the winger with Milan or elsewhere will be met with the same answer: he stays.

So United’s message to Milan is split in two. Mount is available at the right price, a high-profile opportunity for a club looking to arm Amorim with familiar weapons. Diallo, though, is off the market.

For Milan, the question is straightforward: is Mount, at €25m, the right piece to anchor Amorim’s new project? For United, the calculation is harsher. Can they afford to lose a player of Mount’s pedigree to fund the next phase of their rebuild, while betting that Diallo becomes a central figure in the season ahead?
