Manchester United Pursue Lewis Hall in £60m Transfer Bid

Hall ‘approved’ at Old Trafford

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United’s hierarchy have green-lit a move for Hall, who only joined Newcastle permanently last season after emerging from Chelsea’s academy.

“Man Utd really appreciate Lewis Hall and Man Utd consider Lewis Hall as an ideal player they would like to add to their squad,” Romano explained, stressing that the full-back is “internally approved” and firmly on United’s list.

United have already opened lines of communication to gauge the conditions of a deal. They see Hall as a top target for the left side of their defence, a position that has caused them problems through injuries and inconsistency.

The intent is clear. The club are not finished in this window, even after significant business earlier in the summer. Now, as August bites, they are ready to go again.

Newcastle dig in

There is, however, a hard stop in all this: Newcastle’s stance.

Romano was blunt on that point. Newcastle do not want to sell Lewis Hall. The message from St James’ Park is consistent – after cashing in heavily on Tonali, Gordon and with Guimaraes expected to bring in another major fee, they want to draw a line.

Hall is seen as part of what remains of their core for the future, a young, homegrown full-back with the technical quality to fit the style they have tried to build. Letting him go now, after so many exits, would pour more fuel on an already furious fanbase.

Yet money talks. And United are preparing to speak loudly.

£60m move in the works

TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey reported on July 30 that United’s opening bid is being drafted, with Newcastle valuing Hall at around £60m.

If United go that high, Hall would leapfrog Andrey Santos – signed for £48m plus £2m in add-ons, totalling £50m – as the club’s priciest acquisition of the window.

That figure reflects both Newcastle’s reluctance and United’s need. Left-back has become a strategic priority, and Hall’s profile – young, technically polished, comfortable on the ball – fits the direction the club are trying to take.

The question now is whether Newcastle’s resistance holds when the formal offer lands. They insist they do not want to sell. United see him as a prime target. The deal has been approved in Manchester. The lines are drawn.
