Manchester City have drawn a hard line in the sand over Rodri – and Barcelona have just found out where it is.

The Spanish giants tested City’s resolve with an opening offer of €45million (£38m) for the midfield lynchpin. Inside the Etihad, that figure was dismissed as “derisory”. City’s valuation? Around €80m (£68.5m), and they are in no mood to budge.

Rodri’s wish to return to Spain has been an open secret for some time. For months, the smart money pointed towards Real Madrid. They were seen as favourites, the natural landing spot for a player who has dominated English midfields and European nights with the same icy control.

Then Barcelona arrived.
