Manchester City Rejects Barcelona's Second Offer for Rodri, Holding Firm on Price

The Spanish giants returned with an improved proposal close to €60 million, as reported by The Times, following an initial offer of €45 million plus €15 million in bonuses that was dismissed outright by City's management. Manchester City is holding out for a total sum near £70 million (around €81 million), with additional performance-based incentives. Despite Rodri entering the last year of his contract, City refuses to lower their asking price.

Hansi Flick’s Influence and Rodri’s Preference

Amid the stalled negotiations, optimism remains within Barcelona due to Rodri's willingness to move. The interest intensified after Hansi Flick, Barcelona's coach, directly reached out to the player, explaining his vision for the team. This personal engagement reportedly convinced Rodri to favor Barcelona, overcoming earlier reservations about possible Real Madrid interest.

Rodri's agent, Pablo Barquero, confirmed the midfielder's preference during an interview with Spanish radio station El Larguero, stating:

"Out of respect for Madrid, as they have been class, Rodri informed them that his decision is to join Barca."

Manchester City's reluctance to reduce their valuation might be linked to the challenge of replacing such a pivotal figure in midfield. Manager Enzo Maresca has targeted Enzo Fernandez as a potential successor. Yet, securing the 2022 World Cup winner from Chelsea could prove even more costly than Barcelona's pursuit of Rodri, as Chelsea reportedly demands £120 million for the Argentine, who is contracted until 2032.
