Luis Diaz Champions Harry Kane for 2026 Ballon d'Or After Stellar Season at Bayern Munich

Luis Diaz, winger for Bayern Munich, has thrown his full support behind teammate Harry Kane to claim the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The Colombian star expressed admiration for Kane's incredible performance during the season, highlighting the English striker's all-around abilities.

A Narrow Escape in the DFB-Pokal

The Bavarian giants began their defense of the DFB-Pokal with a 4-1 victory over second-division side Osnabrueck. Despite fielding a strong lineup including Kane, Diaz, Michael Olise, and Joshua Kimmich under coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern faced an early scare. Robin Meissner put Osnabrueck ahead within five minutes with a stunning 30-yard volley past goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

Bayern quickly regained control when Kane equalized with a skillful volley just thirteen minutes later. The team then cruised to victory thanks to goals from Tom Bischof, Olise, and a late penalty from Kane.

Kane’s Exceptional Qualities Highlighted

After the win, Diaz praised Kane's comprehensive skill set, telling ESPN, "He’s the best in the world, without a doubt. He proved it throughout last season and has been showing it for a long time. The truth is, he can do everything." Diaz also emphasized Kane's teamwork, work rate, defensive contributions, and ability to score from distance.

"He makes his teammates play, he runs, defends, scores goals, and he can also score from long range," said Diaz, who previously played for Liverpool.

An Unforgettable Season for Kane

Kane's credentials for football’s top individual award are hard to ignore. This past season, the England captain scored an astonishing 73 goals and provided eight assists across 65 appearances for club and country. His six goals in the 2026 World Cup helped England finish third.

This scoring record is the second-best single-season total since 2000, only behind Lionel Messi's 82 goals in 2011-12 for Barcelona and Argentina.

"His mentality is incredible," Diaz added. "So, for me, he’s one of the main contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. I hope he can lift it and that we can all be happy for him."

Building Momentum Domestically

With Kane already opening his account this campaign, Bayern look to continue their dominant form in the Bundesliga. Following back-to-back high-scoring wins, Vincent Kompany’s squad will face Schalke this Saturday as they aim to maintain their offensive threat.
