A Simple Deal With Clear Lines

Sky, Fabrizio Romano and several other sources report that Lyon will pay around €3m to take Openda on loan, a figure that offers Juventus a modest financial boost while they reassess their attacking options.

The structure is as straightforward as it gets at this level: a dry loan, no clauses lurking in the small print, and, crucially, Lyon covering Openda’s salary in full. Earlier in the week, there were suggestions that Juventus might have to shoulder part of his wages to push the move through. That concern has now been brushed aside.

For Juve, it trims the wage bill and buys time. For Lyon, it’s an opportunity.

Fonseca’s New Weapon

At Lyon, Openda will link up with Paulo Fonseca, the former Milan head coach tasked with restoring a sense of direction at a club that has lurched between rebuilds and resets in recent years.
