Liverpool Target Fikayo Tomori as Defensive Solution

Andoni Iraola hasn’t even reached the serious business of his first competitive game and already Liverpool’s summer is fraying at the edges.

Curtis Jones’ public clash with Dominik Szoboszlai has stirred talk of unrest and a possible exit for the academy midfielder. Joe Gomez’s injury has cut even deeper. The 29-year-old is expected to miss the start of the season, and his absence has exposed a fault line through the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

Right now, Iraola has just three senior centre-backs. Two of them, Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, have never started a Premier League match. That is not the platform on which a title challenge is usually built.

Tomori has just one year left on his contract at San Siro and has slipped out of favour under Ruben Amorim, a combination that points to a relatively modest fee for a defender in his prime.

For a club suddenly light in central defence, the opportunity is obvious.

Liverpool are understood to be weighing up a formal bid, turning initial interest into something far more concrete. If they move quickly, Tomori becomes one of the key transfer stories of their summer.

Gomez’s lay-off has forced the issue. Without him, Iraola is left to lean on untested options or push players out of position. Tomori, with Premier League experience behind him and years in Serie A sharpening his game, would walk straight into the conversation to start.

He has already turned down Coventry City, holding out for something bigger. A return to England at Anfield, with Champions League nights and a central role in a reshaped defence, would justify that patience in an instant.

Liverpool need a defender who can step in now, not one who might be ready in a year’s time. Tomori fits the profile, the timing, and the price.
