Liverpool’s summer rebuild has a clear theme: attack, attack, and attack again. But a door has just opened in Madrid that could tempt them into tweaking that plan.

Real Madrid have told centre-back Raul Asencio he can leave the club, and Liverpool have been alerted to the opportunity, according to TEAMtalk.

The Spain international has been “sounded out” to the Anfield hierarchy after being informed his future lies away from the Bernabeu. Inside Valdebebas, there is respect but no long-term promise. Head coach Mourinho is understood to have told Asencio he rates him, yet does not see a sustained role for him in his plans, effectively giving the green light for an exit.

Liverpool boss Iraola has admired Asencio for a long time. The profile fits a need: a centre-back with more experience than Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, both talented but still largely untested at the very top level.

For now, though, this is an open door rather than an active negotiation. The problem is the numbers.

Romano reports that Liverpool’s initial indications are “far away” from the fee PSG expect. That financial gap means any “here we go” moment is not close, with Romano stressing that Barcola to Liverpool is not imminent “today or tomorrow.”

Still, the story is very much alive. Talks will continue because Liverpool want Barcola, and, crucially, because Barcola “loves the idea” of joining Liverpool. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue; the player is “super tempted” by the project on offer at Anfield.
