Liverpool's Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Intensifies Amid Bayern Munich Interest

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has moved from background noise to the main soundtrack of their summer – and Bayern Munich are being pushed out of earshot.

The Premier League club have already brought in one wide player, Victor Munoz from Osasuna, but that deal was never going to be the end of their work out wide. Munoz is a piece of the puzzle. The search for a genuine heir to Mohamed Salah is the real project.

Salah’s departure at the end of last season left a hole that can’t be filled by committee. Liverpool wanted a statement signing and initially trained their sights on RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, even going as far as submitting a bid. Then Real Madrid walked into the room. Diomande is now heading for the Bernabeu, and Liverpool’s recruitment team have been forced to redraw their plans.

The new focal point is clear: Bradley Barcola.

Liverpool, PSG and a willing winger

Barcola’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain has opened the door. Rumours around the Parc des Princes suggest he will not sign a new deal, and his eyes are fixed firmly on Anfield.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano outlined the state of play on Friday, making it clear the lines of communication are wide open.

Contacts are ongoing between Liverpool, PSG and Barcola’s camp. The sticking point is not the project, not the role, not the personal terms. Those boxes are effectively ticked. Barcola is described as “very keen” on the move, excited by the idea of joining Liverpool and stepping into a frontline that has been reshaped but not yet redefined.

The obstacle is money.

Liverpool will have to make a substantial financial commitment to shift PSG’s stance. The French champions have already seen several attacking players leave and are still working through other pieces of business. They are under no pressure to sell on the cheap, and they want time to line up replacements before signing off on another major exit.

Nothing is described as imminent. Talk of a bid being “prepared” is not the central issue; the real question is how far Liverpool are willing to go on the fee. The club are expected to make an offer and, by all accounts, an agreement with the player will follow. The negotiation that matters is with PSG.

This could drag. PSG hold a long contract, leverage in the market, and a clear sense of Barcola’s value. Liverpool hold the player’s enthusiasm and a pressing need in their squad.

Something has to give.

Bayern watching – but from a distance

In the background, Bayern Munich had been painted as a potential rival. A club of that size, with that history of snapping up top talent, is always a threat when a high-end winger is in play.

Not this time.

According to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, Bayern are watching the situation but will not be stepping into the ring this summer. On his own platform, Falk detailed how Bayern have tracked Barcola for the past two years, staying in contact with his representatives and keeping him on their shortlist.

They even checked in again this summer, sounding out his plans and his feelings about the future. His contract, which runs until 2028, means PSG remain in a strong position, but with no extension talks underway, his price will naturally soften with each passing year.

Just not enough yet for Bayern.

Falk makes it clear: Barcola is too expensive for the Bundesliga giants this summer. Too expensive for Bayern, but not for Liverpool. That’s the key line. Liverpool, he says, are “closer” to a deal, driven on by the loss of Diomande to Real Madrid and their growing need for a player of Barcola’s profile.

Bayern’s interest is more long-term. Their thinking links directly to Michael Olise. The French winger is staying put this summer, but his future beyond that is uncertain. If Olise does not sign a new contract and Bayern are eventually forced into a sale, Barcola is seen as the number one option to replace him.

That is where the timing cuts sharply in Liverpool’s favour.

If Barcola stays in Paris for another season, Bayern believe there could be an opening next summer. If he moves to Anfield now, Falk is blunt: there is “no chance” for Bayern.

So Liverpool are not just chasing a solution to their Salah problem. They are also closing off a future route for one of Europe’s other heavyweights.
