Liverpool Near Agreement for Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola as Asking Price Drops

Liverpool has received a major lift in its pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola. Reports indicate that PSG has lowered their asking price, boosting Liverpool’s chances of finalizing the deal before the transfer window closes. Negotiations have picked up pace with the deadline looming.

Price Reduction Signals Progress

After initial talks stalled, Liverpool are now closing in on signing Barcola. According to The Times, PSG dropped their valuation from €170 million to about £115 million during renewed discussions this week. This reduction of roughly £30 million marks a significant breakthrough. Liverpool shifted focus to Barcola after failing to land Yan Diomande and are pushing hard to wrap up the transfer ahead of Tuesday's deadline.

A Potential Record Signing for Liverpool

If completed, Barcola would become Liverpool’s second most expensive acquisition, with the £115 million fee just below the £125 million paid for Alexander Isak last summer. The total outlay for Florian Wirtz was £116 million, but Liverpool's upfront cost was less because part of it depended on performance bonuses. Club officials now face the decision whether Barcola justifies such a substantial investment.

Personal terms appear settled already, as preliminary contract details are in place, and Barcola reportedly prefers a move to Liverpool.

Search for a Right Winger Continues

Alongside the Barcola negotiations, Liverpool is actively seeking a right winger before the 11 pm September 1 deadline. Sporting director Richard Hughes is reviewing several targets after the failed Diomande deal.

  • Ibrahim Mbaye was considered.
  • Two bids were made for Yankuba Minteh, both rejected by Brighton, who want £80 million.
  • Enquiries for Endrick and Ismaila Sarr were declined by Real Madrid and Crystal Palace.
  • Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo drew interest, though it’s unclear if Liverpool pursued them further after signing Victor Munoz in June.

What Lies Ahead for Liverpool?

It seems likely Liverpool and PSG will soon reach an agreement for Barcola. Hughes must act quickly to complete paperwork and medicals before the transfer window shuts. Securing Barcola alongside another right winger could mark a pivotal summer for Liverpool.
