Liverpool Pursue Bradley Barcola as Salah Successor

Liverpool’s search for a new right-sided talisman has zeroed in on one name: Bradley Barcola. And this time, they are moving with intent.

According to a report by the BBC, Liverpool have accelerated their pursuit of the Paris Saint-Germain winger and are preparing an initial bid, having identified the 23-year-old as their leading option to replace Mohamed Salah, who left Anfield at the end of last season.

They did not start here. Liverpool’s first choice had been Yan Diomande, but the RB Leipzig wide man is now on course to join Real Madrid. That decision in Spain has sharpened minds on Merseyside. With Diomande slipping away, Liverpool have thrown their weight behind Barcola and are now testing the limits of PSG’s resolve.

A record-shattering price tag

The problem is obvious. PSG’s price.

The French champions have slapped a valuation of around £145 million on Barcola, a figure that would comfortably break the British transfer record. Liverpool, for all their ambition, are not inclined to pay it. Those inside Anfield are understood to be targeting a fee closer to £100m, creating a chasm between what they are prepared to offer and what PSG insist they must receive.

This is not a simple negotiation. Barcola has two years left on his current contract, which runs until 2028, and PSG are under no pressure to sell. They can afford to be stubborn. For now, they are.

A restless winger, a clear preference

The dynamic shifts when you factor in the player.

Barcola is understood to be keen on a move to Liverpool. After slipping down the pecking order in Paris and growing tired of watching key matches from the bench, the France winger wants a fresh start and the status of a regular starter. The Premier League, and specifically Anfield, has become his chosen stage.

He has already held positive talks with Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola and senior club executives, outlining his desire to take the next step in his career in England. During those conversations, Barcola made clear he does not intend to extend his current deal with PSG, a stance that subtly shifts the balance of power in Liverpool’s favour.

An agreement in principle has been reached between the player and Liverpool. Personal terms are not the issue. The contract, the project, the role in the team – all broadly in place. The deal, however, remains trapped in the numbers.

A complex deal on a tightrope

For Liverpool, this is a high-stakes calculation. They want Salah’s successor to be elite, but they also want value. PSG, meanwhile, see a 23-year-old with prime years ahead and a long contract, and are holding out for their £145m valuation.

The gap is huge. Yet Barcola’s determination to move to Merseyside gives Liverpool leverage that money alone cannot buy. His preference is clear, and he hopes that his personal agreement with the Premier League club will help push negotiations forward. At this stage, though, no formal contractual paperwork has been signed.

Over the coming days, Liverpool will submit their official opening bid, a first real test of PSG’s resolve. Talks are expected to continue as both clubs probe for a middle ground, searching for a structure and a figure that can bridge the divide.

If that compromise does not emerge, Liverpool may have to do something they do not want to do: walk away and restart the search for an attacking cornerstone.

The question now is simple. Do they bend towards PSG’s demands to land their chosen heir to Salah, or hold their line and risk watching another target slip through their fingers?
