Liverpool's Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Intensifies Amid Bayern Interest

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has run straight into the heavyweight traffic of Europe’s transfer market.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger, identified as Liverpool’s priority wide target, is now firmly on Bayern Munich’s radar as a potential successor to Michael Olise, according to German reporter Christian Falk.

Liverpool’s “top, top, top” winger target

Liverpool’s interest in Barcola is no longer a whisper on the fringes of the market. On July 9, transfer reporter Graeme Bailey revealed that the club are pushing to bring the France international to Anfield this summer, with the player having already informed PSG that he wants to leave.

Inside Paris, the stance is very different. PSG want to keep him. They are preparing talks over a new contract and, if they are forced to sell, the price is brutal: at least €150m (£128m, $170.5m) for a player they see as a cornerstone of their future.

That hasn’t cooled Liverpool’s admiration. Fabrizio Romano has repeatedly underlined just how high Barcola sits on their list.

“Barcola is the top, top, top target of Liverpool,” Romano said on his YouTube channel, stressing that this has been the case for months. Liverpool, he added, “love Barcola” and remain “super keen” on the winger, even if the financial side of any deal is far from straightforward.

Romano also moved quickly to shut down one of the usual summer subplots: Barcelona are not in the race, with Jorge Mendes not involved in Barcola’s representation.

For a while, it looked like a straight fight between Liverpool and PSG’s resolve.

Then Bayern stepped into the frame.

Bayern’s contingency plan for Olise

In Munich, the dominoes line up differently. Real Madrid want Michael Olise. Not just in passing either. Club president Florentino Perez is personally keen on taking the winger to the Bernabeu.

Bayern’s public position is clear: they do not want to sell Olise this summer. Vincent Kompany sees him as central to his first full campaign in charge, and the Bundesliga champions are not inviting a bidding war.

But they are not naïve. They are planning for the worst-case scenario.

Falk reports that Barcola is on Bayern’s shortlist if they are forced to cash in on Olise. This is not a new fascination. He notes that Bayern considered signing Barcola last summer, and even the summer before that the 23-year-old was already viewed as a very interesting option by the club’s hierarchy.

Right now, though, Falk is blunt: “At the moment there is no chance of getting this player for the club.” PSG want to renew him, and the figures being mentioned – around €150m – place him in the elite bracket of the market.

The situation could look very different in a year.

The contract clock and a looming decision

Barcola’s contract runs to 2028, but that is a year shorter than Olise’s deal at Bayern. That detail matters. If PSG do not sell this summer and no club is willing or able to meet their asking price, the winger will move into a more vulnerable phase of his contract next year.

That is where Bayern see an opening.

If, next summer, Olise has to be sold and Barcola still has only one year less left on his deal, PSG will be under pressure to decide: extend him on their terms, or cash in before his value drops.

Falk believes Barcola would fit Bayern “perfectly”, and not just on the pitch. His current salary in Paris, reported at around €7m-8m gross per year, is roughly half of what Olise earns in Munich. For a club that still watches its wage structure closely, that is a powerful argument.

So the picture is set. Liverpool are “super keen” and have made Barcola their primary wing target. PSG are holding firm, demanding a fee that only a handful of clubs in Europe can contemplate. Bayern, for now, are watching and waiting, treating him as the ideal replacement if Real Madrid prise Olise away.
