Leanne Kiernan Joins Newcastle United: A New Chapter

Leanne Kiernan has swapped Merseyside for Tyneside, completing her move to Newcastle United in a deal that underlines the club’s growing ambition in the women’s game.

“I’m really excited,” she said. “I’m looking forward to a fresh start and meeting the fans. It was a dream of mine to come and play professionally and to go to a club like Newcastle, it really felt right when the contact came in.

“I would say I’m a quick attacker in behind, so I feel like I can bring my strengths and hopefully score loads of goal to help the team out.”

That self-description will be music to Newcastle ears. This is a club building a side that wants to play on the front foot, and Kiernan’s profile fits neatly into that plan: a runner in behind, a forward who lives on the shoulder of the last defender, someone who turns hopeful passes into real chances.
