KCB FC's Bold Rebuild Under Matano for 2026/27 Season

KCB FC are not tinkering. They’re tearing up and starting again.

After a flat 2025/26 season that yielded seventh place in the FKF Premier League and a fourth-place finish in the FKF Cup, the bankers have moved aggressively on and off the pitch, reshaping both the technical bench and the dressing room in a bid to turn potential into silverware.

Matano backed with fresh brains and new legs

Veteran head coach Robert Matano has been handed a reinforced backroom team. Peter Okidi Okoth, fresh from his stint at newly promoted Mombasa United, steps in as assistant coach, bringing top-flight experience and a reputation for detail. Alongside him, former Gor Mahia man Bonface Olouch Otieno takes over as goalkeeping coach, a specialist addition designed to sharpen a key department.

The support structure around Matano has been steadily built. Last season, KCB brought in Tobby Owino as video analyst, arming the technical bench with deeper tactical insight. Strength and conditioning coach Samuel Macharia, who rejoined midway through the 2025/26 campaign, stays on to oversee the physical edge Matano demands.

The message is clear: no excuses. Every department now has a defined voice and a clear mandate.

Seven new signings to change the spine

On the pitch, KCB have gone for volume and variety. Seven new faces arrive to stretch competition for places and inject fresh energy into a squad that faded too often last term.

The full-back positions get an immediate facelift. Right-back Mark Oduor comes in from Shabana FC, while left-back Jim Owili joins from Mara Sugar, giving Matano more thrust and balance down both flanks.

In midfield, the rebuild looks even more deliberate. Defensive midfielder Fidel Origa swaps Gor Mahia for KCB, tasked with protecting the back four and setting the tempo from deep. Ahead of him, attacking midfielder Brian Ouru arrives from Mathare United, expected to add invention between the lines and link play with the forwards.

There is a clear international flavour out wide. Burundian winger Franck Nduwimana, signed from Rwanda’s Gorilla, offers pace and directness, the kind of wide threat KCB too often lacked when chasing games.

Up front, the responsibility for goals will not rest on old shoulders alone. Striker Assis Mambote, another recruit from Shabana, is brought in to provide a sharper cutting edge in the box, while central midfielder Geoffrey Ojunga leaves Bandari to deepen the options in the engine room.

It is not just a refresh. It is a new core.

Philosophy first as KCB chase trophies

Matano has been adamant that this rebuild is not about names, but fit. He has spoken of identifying players who match his philosophy, stressing quality, discipline and mentality as non-negotiables. The technical bench, he believes, is now equipped to prepare for the grind of a long SportPesa League season.

Above him, the ambition is just as blunt.

KCB FC Patron Azu Ogola has framed the transfer drive as a statement of intent, pointing to a club that wants to compete at the highest level and challenge for trophies, not simply make up the numbers. In his view, the combination of a strengthened technical team and targeted signings gives KCB a squad aligned with that vision.

The expectations are not dressed up: be competitive in every match, deliver consistent performances, and give supporters a team that plays with purpose.
