Juventus Target Joshua Zirkzee for Summer Loan

Joshua Zirkzee has given the green light. Now it is up to Juventus to turn a nod into a signature.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Manchester United forward has provided initial approval to join the Bianconeri this summer, with the Italian club pushing for a loan deal and locked in intensive talks with his agent, Kia Joorabchian. The move would be part of a sweeping rebuild of Juve’s attack, one that also has Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani at the heart of their plans.

Massara’s long chase

Zirkzee is not a name plucked from nowhere. New football director Ricky Massara has been tracking the Dutchman for some time and tried to bring him to Roma in the winter window. That attempt failed. The admiration did not fade.

At Bologna, Zirkzee looked every bit the modern centre-forward: 12 goals and seven assists in Serie A in 2023-24, linking play, drifting between the lines, and giving defenders a constant problem. His move to the Premier League, though, has dulled the shine. Just 19 starts in 68 league appearances over the last two seasons tell the story of a player who has struggled to adapt and to nail down a regular role.

Juventus believe the solution is not to change the player, but the context.

Built for Spalletti

Massara and the club hierarchy see Zirkzee’s profile as a natural fit for Luciano Spalletti’s tactical demands. Technically sharp, comfortable receiving under pressure, and able to combine with runners around him, he offers a different reference point to a traditional penalty-box striker.

Spalletti’s systems lean heavily on forwards who can knit together attacks and open lanes for wide players and midfielders. Zirkzee ticks those boxes. The question now is whether United will accept the terms of a loan that suits Juventus, and how quickly an agreement can be reached.

The urgency is real.

Kolo Muani and the need for speed

Juve’s transfer push has been accelerated by an untimely blow: an injury to promising Italian striker Jeff Ekhator, which has stripped depth from an already thin frontline. The club do not want to go into the new season one injury away from a crisis.

So the plan is two-pronged. While talks continue with United over Zirkzee, CEO Giovanni Carnevali is, as reported by Gazzetta, working to close a €40 million deal for Kolo Muani from PSG. If Zirkzee is the technician, Kolo Muani is the runner.

His pace, direct movement, and ability to stretch defences are seen as the perfect complement to Zirkzee’s more refined link play. Juventus are convinced that pairing the Dutchman’s touch with the Frenchman’s acceleration can transform an attack that has often looked static and predictable into one that is far more dynamic and difficult to read.

Time pressure in Turin

Spalletti is now waiting for clarity. The coach wants both deals wrapped up as quickly as possible, not only to secure his attacking core but to give any new arrivals a full pre-season to absorb his ideas.

The calendar offers little sympathy. Juventus open their Serie A campaign away to newly promoted Frosinone on August 23, a fixture that looks straightforward on paper but could be anything but if the squad is still in flux and the new-look frontline has barely trained together.

For a club that measures itself against titles, not transition seasons, the margin for error is slim. Zirkzee has said yes. Kolo Muani is within reach. Now Juventus must prove they can move as decisively off the pitch as they expect to in the final third.
