Juventus Pursue Zirkzee as David's Future Uncertain

Juventus have moved Joshua Zirkzee to the top of their attacking agenda and, crucially, now have Manchester United’s blessing to explore a loan deal for the forward.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the green light from the Red Devils has unlocked an operation the Bianconeri have been circling for some time. Zirkzee’s last two years in the Premier League have never truly caught fire, and the 2001-born attacker has made no secret of his longing for Serie A. He has already given full approval to a move to Turin.

The timing is no coincidence. As Zirkzee edges closer, Jonathan David’s position at Juventus grows more fragile by the day. His early withdrawal from a friendly against Chelsea in Hong Kong felt like more than a simple change in a pre-season match; it looked like the first visible sign of a changing of the guard in attack.

Massara’s calculated gamble

At Continassa, sporting director Ricky Massara is driving the move with notable urgency. He is working on the finer points of the deal with a very clear objective: a straight loan, no obligation to buy.

That detail matters. Juventus have already stretched their budget to bring in Randal Kolo Muani, agreeing a €38 million fee plus €12m in guaranteed add-ons with Paris Saint-Germain. After that outlay, there is little room for another major permanent investment without upsetting the club’s financial balance.

A loan for Zirkzee, then, represents a calculated gamble with limited downside. Massara knows the player well. During his time at Roma he tried to sign the former Bologna forward, and that unfinished business now fuels his determination to close the deal for Juventus. He sees this as an opportunity that may not come around again.

Zirkzee’s profile, Spalletti’s puzzle

But reality bites. A low-cost loan for a player of Zirkzee’s profile forces hard questions. Can Juventus afford to pass up such a deal? And if they take it, can David accept another year fighting for minutes in a system that has yet to truly suit him?
