Juventus Pursue Jhon Lucumí as Defender Rejects Premier League Offers

Juventus have moved to the front of the queue for Jhon Lucumí, reaching an agreement in principle with the Bologna centre-back despite concrete interest from England.

The Colombian has given a clear signal. Nottingham Forest were ready to pay him significantly more, while Chelsea and Manchester United sounded him out, yet Lucumí has kept Juventus at the top of his list. The lure of a bigger stage has won.

According to reports, the 26-year-old has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract worth €2.5 million per season plus bonuses. Forest, by contrast, could have put roughly €1 million more net on the table each year. Lucumí has chosen the badge, the European spotlight and continuity in Serie A over the extra cash.

For Juventus, it is a decisive step in a defensive rebuild. For Lucumí, it is the career leap he has been waiting for.

Spalletti’s priority, Bologna’s problem

The final word now rests with Bologna. That is where the deal becomes complicated.

Luciano Spalletti identified Lucumí as a priority target after his commanding World Cup performances, including a standout display in which he effectively shut down Cristiano Ronaldo. Juventus moved early and with intent, and talks with the Rossoblù are already under way.

Bologna’s stance is clear. They value their defensive leader at a minimum of €25 million after his €28 million release clause expired in mid-July. The clause is gone, but the benchmark remains.

Time, though, is not on their side. Lucumí’s contract runs out in 10 months. Push the price too high, and Bologna risk watching a cornerstone of their back line walk away for nothing next summer. Accept a lower figure, and they lose a key player now, but at least on their terms.

Juventus know this. They have the player’s yes, they have a long-term deal ready, and they have a coach who wants him at the heart of his defence. The pressure is shifting onto Bologna’s directors.
