Josh Yaro Leaves St. Louis CITY SC on Loan to AC Boise

St. Louis CITY SC defender Josh Yaro has left on loan for USL League One side Athletic Club Boise, stepping away from the club he has helped shape since its earliest days.

The 31-year-old center back will spend the remainder of the 2026 season in Idaho, a move designed to give him the one thing he has lacked in recent months: regular minutes in a competitive environment.

From foundation piece to new challenge

Yaro has been woven into the fabric of St. Louis CITY SC since 2022. He anchored the back line for CITY2 during that inaugural MLS NEXT Pro campaign, helping the side capture the Western Conference title and setting the tone for the club’s high-tempo, front-foot identity.

That run with CITY2 earned him a place with the first team in 2023, a natural progression for a defender whose game is built on anticipation, recovery speed, and a willingness to take responsibility in big moments.

Around the club, though, Yaro’s influence has never been limited to his positioning on the pitch. Sporting Director Corey Wray underlined that point as the loan was confirmed.

“Josh has been with the club from the beginning and has always been a great teammate, stepping up whenever needed both on and off the pitch,” Wray said. “He has embraced the city and consistently made an impact through numerous community initiatives, which speaks to the person he is. We are excited that he now has an opportunity to get consistent minutes in a competitive team and wish him and AC Boise the best for the remainder of the season.”

A move built around minutes

For St. Louis, squad depth and internal competition remain crucial as the club continues to grow in MLS. For Yaro, the loan to AC Boise offers the chance to become a week-in, week-out presence again, to lead a back line, and to test himself in a different setting.

AC Boise, for their part, gain an experienced professional who has lived through the grind of building a club from scratch and winning a conference title in the process.

Yaro heads west with the blessing of a club that still values his voice and his standards. What he does with this stretch of consistent football in USL League One may well decide what the next chapter of his career looks like when the 2026 season closes.
