Jersey Bulls Face Goalkeeper Crisis After Roche Injury

Jersey Bulls have been dealt an early-season blow with goalkeeper Pierce Roche ruled out for around three months after breaking his collarbone in their FA Trophy penalty shootout defeat.

The injury came at the cruellest moment. Roche dived in vain for Hayes & Yeading United’s third spot-kick from Ross Derham and appeared to land awkwardly, immediately signalling discomfort.

He stayed on. He insisted on finishing the shootout, clearly in pain as he tried to give his side a chance. By the time Brendan Matthew stepped up to strike the decisive penalty for the home side, Roche was visibly struggling.

Hayes & Yeading went on to win the shootout 4-1 after the tie had finished 2-2 in normal time, sending Jersey out of the competition and leaving them with a serious problem between the posts.

Roche has been the Bulls’ first choice at the start of this campaign, starting both of their matches so far after making 11 appearances for the island club in the 2025-26 season. His absence now rips out a key piece of their spine just as the schedule begins to build.

The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday evening, away to Moneyfields in the Isthmian League South Central. They travel knowing they must quickly find an answer in goal – and adjust to life without their No 1 for the months ahead.
