Once tipped as the next jewel out of Borussia Dortmund’s academy, Jayden Braaf is back in Germany with something far less glamorous on the line: his career.

The 23-year-old free agent is currently training with VfL Osnabrück, the club that climbed out of the 3. Liga last season and is now preparing for life in the 2. Bundesliga. For Osnabrück, it’s a low-risk look at a high-upside talent. For Braaf, it feels like a crossroads.

Braaf’s path has never been short on big names. He left Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund in 2022 with the label “highly touted” attached to him like a second skin. ADO Den Haag, Portsmouth and Cádiz have all been mentioned as possible destinations.

Yet it is in the Bundesrepublik, away from the spotlight of the top tier, where his reset might actually begin.
