Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapses
Jamal Musiala has moved to calm growing fears over his health after collapsing twice in four days during Bayern Munich’s pre-season schedule.
The 23-year-old Germany international went down in friendlies against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim, leaving teammates, opponents and supporters visibly stunned by the scenes.
Two scares in four days
The latest incident came on Tuesday, August 18, in Bayern’s 4-2 win at Heidenheim. Musiala had just come off the bench, barely a few minutes into his cameo, when he appeared disoriented and slowly sank to the turf.
Players from both sides rushed towards him as medical staff sprinted on. For a few uneasy moments, the stadium fell into that familiar hush football has learned to dread. Musiala eventually got back to his feet and walked off without assistance, but the distress on his face told its own story.
This was not an isolated scare. Three days earlier, during Bayern’s 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig, he had suffered a near-identical episode. Again he looked unsteady. Again he needed help.
At first, the explanation seemed simple enough: searing summer heat, heavy training legs, a pre-season body still searching for full rhythm. But when the second collapse came in noticeably cooler conditions, that theory evaporated. Something else was clearly at play.
Diagnosis and reassurance
After the Heidenheim match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl addressed the situation, confirming the club already knew of an underlying issue and were monitoring it closely. He stressed that Musiala was conscious, going through his post-match routine as normal, and that the player himself would speak publicly.
That message arrived later that night.
Taking to Instagram, Musiala opened with the words anxious Bayern and Germany fans needed to hear: he is doing well. He then revealed what specialists have told him — the episodes are temporary, brief absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction.
He acknowledged how alarming the collapses look in real time, especially when they unfold in the middle of a match, with cameras rolling and players frantically waving for help.
Crucially, he added that doctors have ruled out any additional health risks. With full neurological clearance, Musiala has decided to continue living his life as normal and keep playing football.
He described himself as “very optimistic” and used the statement to thank Bayern Munich, his family and close friends for their support during a deeply unsettling few days.
For Bayern and Germany, the diagnosis at least brings clarity. The next question is how one of Europe’s brightest midfielders manages this condition while carrying the weight of club and country expectations into a long, demanding season.
