West Ham Urges Fans to Stop Offensive Chant Targeting Manor Solomon

West Ham have called on their supporters to drop an "offensive and divisive" chant aimed at new signing Manor Solomon after it was heard during their Championship opener at Burnley.

The club confirmed they are investigating a song, containing what they described as an "anti-Palestine message", sung by a section of the away end during last Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Turf Moor.

Solomon, an Israel international winger, joined West Ham from Tottenham this summer, having previously spent loan spells at Fulham and Leeds. His arrival has been welcomed on the pitch, but the club has moved quickly to shut down any attempt to turn his background into a flashpoint in the stands.

Club Statement

In a strongly worded statement issued before West Ham’s first home league game of the season against Charlton on Saturday, the club reminded fans of the standards they expect.

They stressed that "each and every supporter is an ambassador" and underlined a wider responsibility "to represent the club in the right way".

The message was clear. West Ham said that, regardless of background, every fan within what they described as their diverse support "should also be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination or abuse" and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring "everyone feels safe, respected and included".

Chanting Culture

The club acknowledged that chanting is at the heart of English football culture and a key part of the matchday experience. They urged fans to keep that passion, to "sing loud and proud" for West Ham and the players in claret and blue – but not at the expense of turning the stands into a battleground over politics or identity.

Solomon, 27, has been capped 49 times by Israel and built his reputation at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won three league titles in Ukraine before moving on loan to Fulham. He then played a part in Leeds’ Championship title win in 2024-25.

Now he steps into a new chapter at West Ham, with the club making it plain what kind of atmosphere they expect to surround him at the London Stadium this season.
