Arsenal's Illan Meslier Linked with Marseille Move Weeks After Joining

Illan Meslier, Arsenal's summer signing, might be on his way out just weeks after joining Mikel Arteta’s squad. The goalkeeper, who transferred from Leeds United in July, has played only 45 minutes for the Gunners and is now reportedly a target for Marseille.

Marseille Eyes New Goalkeeper

According to reports from Foot Mercato, Marseille is interested in bringing Meslier to Ligue 1. The French club needs a new goalkeeper after their first-choice shot-stopper, Geronimo Rulli, left for Manchester City. Marseille sees Meslier as a prime candidate to fill that gap before the transfer window closes.

Arteta’s Squad Changes

Mikel Arteta has been active this summer, investing heavily to strengthen the team after their Premier League triumph and Champions League final loss to PSG last season. Among the big moves was signing Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes for £75 million to replace Christian Norgaard.

The goalkeeper spot, however, remains unsettled. Meslier ranks third behind David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga, both established at the club. Meslier was brought in as quality cover but has not found a clear path to the starting eleven, which may prompt Arsenal to let him leave.

Meslier struggled for game time last season at Leeds, losing his number one spot and making no Premier League appearances.
