Hull City Sign Japan International Hidemasa Morita on Free Transfer

Hull City have added serious top-level experience to their midfield, confirming the signing of Japan international Hidemasa Morita on a two-year deal, with an option for a further year.

The 31-year-old arrives on a free transfer after leaving Sporting, choosing the newly promoted Premier League side despite interest from fellow top-flight newcomers Ipswich Town. For a club preparing for the jump in intensity and scrutiny, this is a statement of intent.

Morita comes with a résumé that instantly raises the ceiling of Hull’s midfield. During four years in Portugal, he collected multiple trophies, including two Primeira Liga titles and the Taça de Portugal, and played his part as Sporting pushed deep into Europe. He featured 23 times in the Champions League, helping the Lisbon club reach the quarter-finals last season. Those nights, against the best in Europe, tend to harden a player. Hull are banking on exactly that.

For Japan, Morita has already passed the landmark of 40 caps, a central figure in a national team that demands technical quality and tactical discipline.
