Guglielmo Vicario Joins Juventus on Loan from Tottenham

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is heading back to Serie A, with Juventus striking a deal that has already earned Fabrizio Romano’s trademark “here we go” seal.

The agreement ends a turbulent spell in north London for the 29-year-old, whose form dipped badly as Spurs staggered over the line last season, surviving relegation by just two points on the final day. His campaign effectively ended in March when he underwent hernia surgery, opening the door for Antonin Kinsky to step in and stake his claim.

For Juventus, this move comes at the end of a winding pursuit. The Bianconeri had pushed to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, only to see that option collapse. At that point, their focus snapped firmly onto Vicario.

Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio detailed how quickly the Turin club accelerated the chase. He described Juve as “serious” about Vicario and ready to “tighten the deadline” to secure a new No.1. Talks with Tottenham moved at speed, with both clubs working towards a loan with an option to buy – a structure that suits Juventus financially and gives Spurs a clean way to respect the player’s desire to return to Italy.

The deal gathered momentum off the pitch as well. Vicario’s agent travelled to Turin initially to work on a transfer for Jhon Lucumí, then used his presence in the city to sit down with Juventus executives and push Vicario’s move closer to completion. Negotiations, Di Marzio reported, became “intense” as all sides tried to thrash out the final details.

The pressure finally told.

On Thursday, Romano announced on X that Juventus had reached an agreement with Tottenham: Vicario will join on loan with a buy option that is not mandatory. Spurs have accepted the proposal, and the goalkeeper, Romano added, “wanted the move and leaves #THFC today.” Juventus get their new goalkeeper. Vicario gets his return to Serie A.

David Ornstein of The Athletic backed up the news, confirming that Tottenham had accepted Juve’s bid. He outlined the same structure: a loan now, with an option to buy next summer, and an expectation from all parties that the transfer will go through after Juventus abandoned their Martinez pursuit.

For Spurs, it draws a line under a short, difficult chapter. For Juventus, it raises a sharper question: have they just secured the stabilising presence they’ve been searching for between the posts, or is this only the first move in a wider reshaping of their goalkeeping future?
