Gavi Goes Pink: Spain’s World Cup Hero Celebrates

Spain had barely finished celebrating a second star on the shirt when one of the architects of their 2026 World Cup triumph headed for a different kind of stage: the barber’s chair.

Gavi, the relentless Barcelona midfielder who helped Spain edge Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final at the “New York New Jersey” stadium, had made a simple pledge before the tournament. If Spain lifted the trophy, he would dye his hair pink.

Spain did their part. Gavi did his.

No sponsor shoot. No carefully managed reveal. Instead, the 2026 world champion chose his own platform. He appeared on Instagram with two photos that stopped the scroll: head freshly shaved, hair lightened and then drenched in a soft pink tone that looks nothing like the snarling, combative player we see in midfield.

“A man who keeps his word,” he wrote, a caption as stripped-back as his new cut.

The hairdresser, who carried out the makeover, later shared the process behind the transformation, confirming what the images already screamed: there was no half-measure here. Gavi committed fully, buzzing it down, bleaching it out and then going all-in on the pink.

The reaction from the dressing room came quickly. Lamine Yamal, his Barcelona and Spain teammate, jumped into the comments with laughing and crying emojis, the kind of dressing-room approval that says as much as any quote.

For now, Gavi has a few days to enjoy both the World Cup title and his new look. The Andalusian midfielder is due back at Barcelona on 12 August, when he will report to the training camp with his fellow Spain internationals to begin preparations for the new season.

He will walk into Barça’s facilities as a world champion, hair blazing pink, carrying the confidence of a player who has just conquered the world and looks ready to attack another campaign exactly the same way.
