“I haven’t spoken to Allegri about him,” he replied.

“In my line of work, the ‘ifs’ count for very little, not as much as they matter for you journalists. From my point of view, it’s better to not talk about speculation,” he said.

It was a pointed answer. No roadmap. No hints. Just a clear refusal to play out hypothetical chains of events in public.

Yet the denial does not close the story. It keeps it alive. By knocking down the “ifs” while leaving Jesus’s broader future untouched, Branchini has left the door ajar for late drama as the market tightens.

For now, Castel di Sangro returns to its usual rhythm: training sessions, tactical meetings, Allegri shaping his new side. But the sight of Jesus’s agent in those stands will linger, a reminder that in the final days of a window, one visit can change the direction of a season.
