Dominik Szoboszlai Signs New Liverpool Deal Until 2031

Dominik Szoboszlai has tied his future to Liverpool, signing a new five-year contract that keeps him at Anfield until 2031 and underlines the club’s belief that their midfield talisman is only just getting started.

Liverpool paid £60m to prise him from RB Leipzig in 2023. A year on, that fee looks less like a gamble and more like a foundation stone. At 25, Szoboszlai has already grown into the heartbeat of the side, finishing last season as Liverpool’s standout performer with 13 goals and 12 assists.

Those numbers tell one story. His attitude tells another.

"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," he said after signing. It wasn’t a throwaway line. It sounded like a mission statement. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can."

"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same," he insisted. "I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."

The club clearly believes he can be the centrepiece of that ambition.

Liverpool’s New Cornerstone

Szoboszlai still had two years left on his original deal, but months of negotiations between his camp and sporting director Richard Hughes have now closed the door on any speculation over his future. Talks accelerated in recent weeks; the agreement was reached and signed this week, locking in a player Liverpool view as central to their next era.

Both sides are convinced his peak is still ahead. The evidence backs them up. Last season, Szoboszlai didn’t just contribute goals and assists, he dragged Liverpool through tight games with his intensity, his range of passing, and his ability to dictate tempo. He played like a man in a hurry, as if aware that the club is rebuilding and someone has to grab the steering wheel.

In February, Mohamed Salah – who has since left Liverpool – called Szoboszlai "one of the best players in the world." Coming from a player who defined Liverpool’s attack for a generation, that felt like more than polite praise. It sounded like a handover.
