Court McGee Shares Why UFC 332 Will Be His Final MMA Bout
Court McGee, a long-time welterweight in the UFC, has opened up about why he plans to make UFC 332 his retirement fight. McGee, who has competed with the UFC since 2010 after winning Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, is set to face Eric Nolan in the opening preliminary match at the event on Saturday, held at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
McGee’s Decision to Step Away
The 41-year-old fighter from Utah had previously announced that this would be his last fight, but now he has explained his reasoning in detail. Speaking to MMAjunkie.com, McGee said:
"Yeah, it’s a retirement fight, but I knew it a couple of years ago when I signed this four-fight deal, so I knew it was coming to an end, and I felt confident with it. Before that, with the neck injury, I thought I was done and I was going to leave a fight on the table, and after fulfilling that last one, I hadn’t felt that good in years. I feel really good. I feel really healthy, but I’m 41 and I’ll be turning 42 this year. Like they say, it’s a young man’s sport, and I want to make sure I have my wits about me when I’m done. I have three kids; I’m married. I have a gym. There’s a lot of life ahead of me after 40. I feel good about my decision. I made that decision with those who are close to me, and I’m OK with it. I’ve made peace with it."
Underdog Status in His Last Fight
According to the latest betting lines for UFC 332, McGee enters the octagon as a +190 underdog against Nolan, who holds the -225 favorite odds. Despite Nolan’s 0-2 UFC record, he is younger, stronger, and known for his knockout power.
McGee brings strong cardio and wrestling skills to the fight, along with experience and fan support, which makes the bout quite compelling despite the betting gap.
