Cole Palmer’s Ibiza Escape After World Cup Snub

Cole Palmer should have been packing for America. Instead, the Chelsea playmaker found himself under the neon lights of Ibiza, trying to outrun the sting of a World Cup snub that stunned English football.

Days after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the tournament in the United States, the 24-year-old was seen at the celebrity haunt Ocean Beach on Wednesday night, surrounded by friends, music, and a steady flow of drinks.

Palmer, who has been in a relationship with influencer Olivia Holder for almost a year, was on a lads’ trip when his group was joined by Love Island star Megan Moore and her friends. The scene was pure Ibiza: loud, lavish, and unashamedly hedonistic.

Onlookers described Palmer as “the life and soul of the party,” at the centre of the group as women gathered around him. He laughed and joked with Megan Moore, with the pair already well acquainted through her cousin, who runs his social media.

If the omission from England duty cut deep, he did his best to mask it. Those at the venue watched him down drinks with the group at what quickly turned into a boozy midweek session at one of the island’s most recognisable spots. The hangovers, one eyewitness suggested, “will be rotten.”

Palmer and his friends arrived late in the afternoon, settling in as the sun dipped and the tempo rose. By around 11pm, the group — including Moore — were seen leaving together, the night apparently having served its purpose as a brief escape.

His trip to Ibiza comes after insiders revealed he had already taken a top-secret break with girlfriend Olivia Holder in the immediate aftermath of the squad announcement. The decision to leave him out, alongside other high-profile omissions such as Harry Maguire and Phil Foden, hit hard.

“Not making the squad hit Cole hard, like all the other players including Harry Maguire and Phil Foden,” a source said. “It was a tough pill to swallow. Naturally these lads live for football and to represent their team at the World Cup is what they all want to do. Cole almost immediately took himself away for a break with Olivia to get into the right frame of mind. He’ll enjoy a break before he gets back to training.”

His exclusion has quickly become one of the main talking points around Tuchel’s selection. Supporters questioned how a player capable of match-winning flashes could be left behind, while even his boyhood hero Wayne Rooney admitted he was surprised to see Palmer’s name missing.

Palmer is not alone in seeking distance from the noise. Phil Foden has been spending the early part of the summer with long-term partner Rebecca Cooke and their children, stepping away from the glare as the tournament build-up gathers pace without him.

Harry Maguire, meanwhile, is preparing for a very different World Cup role. The Manchester United defender is lining up a punditry stint, with The Athletic reporting he is expected to appear on “The Rest is Football” once the tournament begins later this month. The hugely popular podcast, fronted by Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, will be turned into a daily television series on Netflix for the duration of the competition, with Maguire among several special guests.

For Palmer, there will be no such platform this summer. His stage, for now, is a crowded beach club in Ibiza, a few days of freedom, and the quiet resolve to turn a public disappointment into fuel for the season that follows.
