Chelsea Close to Signing Lacroix for £52 Million

Chelsea are closing in on one of the summer’s biggest defensive moves, with Crystal Palace centre-back Lacroix on the brink of a £52 million switch to Stamford Bridge, according to The Athletic.

The Frenchman is expected to undergo his medical on Friday before signing a long-term contract that will keep him in west London until 2032. A marquee fee, a huge commitment, and a clear statement: Chelsea want to build their next back line around him.

From rising talent to £52m cornerstone

Lacroix has been on Chelsea’s radar since June, part of a shortlist that also featured Como defender Jacobo Ramon. That list has now narrowed to one. His rapid rise over the last two Premier League seasons convinced the club to move decisively for the 190cm defender, whose valuation has rocketed from an initial €18m to a premium price.

At Palace, he didn’t just settle; he took charge. Last season he became the spine of the Eagles’ defence, making 55 appearances in all competitions. He walked away with a Community Shield winner’s medal and a Conference League trophy, and those performances pushed him all the way into France’s 2026 World Cup squad.

That kind of trajectory is what Chelsea are paying for: a defender already hardened by English football, yet still with years of growth ahead.

Alonso’s first big defensive call

Lacroix’s arrival is likely to spark a reshuffle at Stamford Bridge. The centre-back department is already crowded, and this signing cuts straight to the heart of the hierarchy.
