Chelsea’s clear-out under Xabi Alonso is accelerating, and the first big defensive domino is about to fall.

The new head coach has put eleven players up for sale, and three of his centre-backs are now edging towards the exit as the club tries to trim a bloated squad that has already banked over £100m in sales this summer.

Chalobah to lead defensive exodus

Trevoh Chalobah looks set to be the first to go. After weeks of talks, Chelsea have finally reached an agreement with Serie A side Como, clearing the way for the academy graduate to leave Stamford Bridge.

It is a symbolic move. Chalobah, a player who has lived every rung of the Chelsea ladder, is the one opening the door on a defensive reshuffle Alonso clearly feels is overdue.

And he will not be the last.

Badiashile lines up Napoli switch

Benoit Badiashile is closing in on a move to Napoli, with journalist Nicolo Schira reporting an agreement in principle between the player and the Italian club.

The deal on the table is a one-season loan followed by a four-year contract, running to 2031, with a salary of €2.8m per year. Napoli and Chelsea are now working on the structure of the loan, which is expected to include an option to buy.

For Chelsea, it is another step in breaking up a back line assembled at great expense but never truly settled. For Napoli, it is a calculated move to rebuild their defence with a 23-year-old who still carries significant upside.

Disasi closing on Crystal Palace

Axel Disasi is also on the move. After spending last season on loan at West Ham, the France international has been searching for a permanent home, and Crystal Palace are now in pole position.

According to Schira, Palace are close to landing Disasi on loan from Chelsea with an option to buy. That clause could turn into an obligation if certain conditions are met, a familiar formula for clubs looking to manage Financial Fair Play while reshaping their squads.

If the deal goes through, Chelsea will have moved on three senior centre-backs in quick succession: Chalobah, Badiashile and Disasi. It is ruthless, but it is also deliberate.

City circle as Chelsea open the shop window

The departures are not confined to defence. The Athletic reports that Enzo Fernandez, Pedro Neto and Malo Gusto are not on Chelsea’s internal “not for sale” list, leaving the door open for serious bids.

Manchester City are monitoring Neto, having already been linked with Fernandez and Gusto earlier in the window. The message from Stamford Bridge is clear: if the offer is right, Chelsea will listen.

The same report lists Liam Delap, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, David Datro Fofana and Emmanuel Emegha among those available. For a club that has recruited aggressively again this summer — bringing in Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck, with another signing already agreed — the churn is relentless.

This is not tinkering. It is a full-scale rebalancing.

Mudryk’s return gives Alonso a different dilemma

Amid the exits and negotiations, Xabi Alonso has another call to make: what to do with Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The winger returned from a doping ban in Chelsea’s defeat to Juventus this week, stepping back onto the pitch after a long and turbulent absence. Alonso admitted the moment carried weight inside the club.

“Yes, for sure, I’m really pleased for him. It was emotional for everyone from the club to see him back, especially when I told him that before the game that was my idea, that he could play 10-15 minutes,” Alonso said afterwards.

“He was thrilled, for sure. It was, after such a long period, to be back on the pitch, it was a great feeling for him and a great feeling for everyone as well.”

Mudryk’s reintegration offers Alonso a fresh attacking option at the very moment he is stripping back the rest of the squad. While defenders and fringe forwards are being ushered towards the door, the Ukrainian’s path back is being carefully cleared.

Chelsea have been busy. They will need to be busier still. With centre-backs packing their bags and key names technically on the market, this is no ordinary window at Stamford Bridge — it is a test of how quickly a superclub can rebuild its identity while the world watches every deal.
