Chelsea have confirmed that four long-serving academy products will leave the club when their contracts expire on 30 June, drawing a line under years of quiet graft at Cobham for a group who grew up in blue.

Hughes bows out after 13-year journey

For defender Brodi Hughes, it ends a 13-year association that began when he walked through the academy doors as an Under-8.

Hughes has been one of the constants of the Cobham production line, ticking off age group after age group and building a reputation as a versatile, reliable presence across the back line. Last season he stepped into senior football with a loan spell at League One side AFC Wimbledon, a key staging post for many academy graduates seeking a permanent foothold in the professional game.

Now, that next step will come away from Stamford Bridge.

Olise’s decade in blue comes to a close

Richard Olise also departs after a decade in the system. Signed as an Under-9, he became a familiar figure in youth sides across the age brackets and pushed himself to the fringes of the senior squad.

His progress was underlined when he earned a place in the first-team travelling party for Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League trip to Astana in the 2024/25 season. He did not become a regular at that level, but the call-up marked him out as one of the academy’s more trusted defenders.

That chapter now closes with the defender seeking a fresh platform to turn promise into regular first-team football.

Rak-Sakyi moves on after first-team breakthrough

Midfielder Sam Rak-Sakyi, who has made four first-team appearances, will also leave this summer.

He joined Chelsea’s academy as an eight-year-old and rose through the Cobham ranks while representing England at youth level, a sign of his standing among his age group. The 2024/25 campaign finally brought his senior breakthrough.

Rak-Sakyi made his debut in the UEFA Conference League against Noah and went on to feature three more times in the competition, gaining a first real taste of European nights in Chelsea colours. Those outings hinted at a pathway, but the club and player now part ways with that experience as his springboard into the wider game.

Tauriainen’s first-team taste before exit

The final confirmed departure is Finnish youth international Jimi Tauriainen, who arrived at Chelsea in 2020 and forced his way into senior contention during the 2023/24 season.

He was named among the substitutes for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool in 2024, a sign of the faith placed in his potential on one of English football’s biggest domestic stages. The real breakthrough followed immediately.

In the next match, an FA Cup fifth-round tie against Leeds United, Tauriainen made his first-team debut. Later that season, he stepped onto a Premier League pitch for the first time when he came off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur, a landmark moment for any young player at the club.

Those flashes of opportunity will now serve as the foundation for the next phase of his career away from west London.

Stutter signs short-term deal

There is a different outcome for striker Ronnie Stutter. Rather than a clean break, he will move onto a month-to-month contract with Chelsea, keeping him in the building while his longer-term future is assessed.
