Charlton Athletic Signs Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the signing of Kenya international Timothy Ouma on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague, with an option to make the deal permanent.

It is not a speculative punt. Nathan Jones has been tracking him for a long time, and he made that clear.

“Timothy is a player that we've monitored for a long, long time, and he comes with a real good pedigree,” the Charlton manager told the club’s official website. “He's an athletic, technical midfield player who has had some good experience, and he'll add real quality to our midfield.”

That “pedigree” has been built the hard way. Not in academy comfort, but across three countries and several demanding leagues.

Ouma came through at Nairobi City Stars in his homeland, quickly emerging as one of the brightest talents in the Kenyan game. From there, he earned a move to IF Elfsborg in Sweden’s top flight in the summer of 2022, a significant step up and a first real taste of European football.

He did not just make up the numbers. Across three seasons in Sweden, he collected 13 Europa League appearances, exposing him to the rhythm and intensity of continental competition and giving him the kind of experience Charlton rarely find available on loan at 22.

His performances earned him a transfer to Slavia Prague, one of central Europe’s most established clubs. Slavia sent him on loan to Polish champions Lech Poznan last season, where he finished the campaign with a league title medal.

Now comes the next challenge: English football and the expectation that he will bring energy, technique and a winning habit to The Valley.

For Charlton, the option to buy adds a layer of intrigue. If Ouma adapts quickly and imposes himself in League One, this could be more than just a one-season stopgap; it could be the start of a long-term pillar in Jones’s midfield.
