Cele Omitted from Chiefs’ Spain Tour Amid Uncertainty

There was no injury bulletin, no grand announcement. Just a boarding list for Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season trip to Spain — and no name of Cele on it.

For a player who had featured throughout the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 campaign under new coach Fernando Da Cruz, the omission was striking. It was also, according to information reaching the public broadcaster, a late shock to the 28-year-old himself, who is understood to have discovered he was not travelling shortly before the squad’s departure.

This is not how marquee signings are usually treated.

Cele’s return to the Premier Soccer League in January last year, after spending the bulk of his professional career abroad, carried real weight at Naturena. Chiefs had tracked him across several transfer windows, finally landing their man in a move widely framed as a statement of intent. Now, with two years still left on his contract, his future has drifted into uncertainty.

Behind the scenes, sensitive talks are believed to be under way over a possible settlement that would allow both parties to part company before the deal expires. The discussions are delicate.
